Whalebone is a family-owned winery in Adelaide, California, west of Paso Robles. We helped them redo their tasting barn with a classic wine country ranch-style design using earth-friendly materials.
The exterior of the building is built from wire-brushed reclaimed pine. Wire brushing brings out the grain and character of the wood and along with the custom built door helps the style of the building fit its environment and purpose perfectly. Small windows framed in similarly-finished wood sport stiff brown curtains which add to the farmhouse, even old west aesthetic of the tasting room.
The interior also incorporates wine country style elements with custom reclaimed cedar and redwood wine racks and a stained concrete floor. The tasting bar is a thick mesquite butcher block with an inlaid copper front panel that adds bright color to compliment the reddish tones of the wood paneling on the inside of the barn.
